Alek Bélanger is a French Canadian multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans visual art, poetry, and filmmaking. His work delves deeply into themes of identity and queerness, offering layered narratives that invite reflection and dialogue.
He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Toronto Metropolitan University, and his award-winning art films have been recognized internationally, earning accolades for their innovative approach to storytelling. Known for creating series unified by colour, movement, and thematic exploration, his multidisciplinary approach bridges various forms of expression.
His poems redacted from gay conversion therapy books have reached a wide audience, alongside his mixed-media art that incorporates abstract motion and photography. Together, these works reclaim narratives of strength and pride while celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community.
Bélanger’s solo exhibition, Portraits, debuted in Miami, Florida, showcasing a unique artistic voice on an international stage. He also exhibited at the prestigious 2024 Artist Project in Toronto, Canada, as well as The Other Art Fair in Brooklyn, New York.
In 2024, he was selected to attend the NG Art Creative Residency in Provence, France. With a new series set to debut in 2025, his practice continues to evolve.
